Welcome Back
August 2017
Dear Families,
What a great day! I know we are going to have a wonderful year. I am so excited to be able to get to know your child. The first week will be filled with learning new procedures and expectations. The first day you will be receiving a packet of paperwork. This is your homework assignment. Please help us by getting these forms completed and returned as soon as possible.
I would like to share a little about myself. I have lived in Bullitt County and have been a part of Bullitt County Schools for 20 years. I am originally from the Okolona area. I received my teaching certification in May 2010. I have a dual certification in Elementary Education and Learning and Behavior Disorders. I completed my Masters in Literacy degree May 2016.
Each day your student will be expected to write one of our learning expectations in their homework notebook and write a reflection about it. Please read these with your child and ask them about it. Students will write about their behavior daily in their planner. We will do these in class for the first while until the students are familiar with how to do this. I will check planners and homework daily. Please check their planners and reading response. Please initial or sign it each night. This is a great communication tool and way to keep in touch with what your student is learning. Please see the back of this letter to find out about our new behavior system and how you can keep in touch with what great work your child is doing in school.
There is a second grade team webpage. There you can find schedules, newsletters, lesson plans and more. If your student is absent this is a great way to keep them up to date. Check the lesson plan and have your student work on the assignments at home when possible. You can find this page from the Brooks’ website or here: http://besfantasticfour.weebly.com/
Every other week you will receive a newsletter from the second grade. The newsletter will include many things about what is happening in our classroom each week. Please look for these each alternate Monday and review with your child what we will be learning and what homework expectations will be.
I will be working very hard this year to help your children become brilliant learners. I ask in return that your student gives me their best effort each and every day. Please help your student to complete homework, have excellent attendance, respect expectations, and have a great attitude about learning. Your students can gain this with your encouragement. Children strive when they receive encouragement from their families. Partner with me in helping your student become a great citizen.
I am looking forward to a great year here at Brook’s. Please feel free to contact me whenever you feel the need. My email address is [email protected]
Let’s have a great year,
Mrs. Kathy Denison
